Solo Sacks for singleton puppies help regulate temperature! During the first four days of life, the ideal environmental temperature for your puppies should between 29.5-32°C. If skin temperature drops even just a degree from the ideal, the puppies oxygen requirements increase by approx. 10% ! and using all that extra energy just to stay warm means they don't gain weight, a few days of this and you have a puppy that's struggle to thrive. As long as the puppies stay close to their mother, or to each other they are provided with some alternate heat source.
With a singleton things are little more complicated - and its a fine balance. If the puppy gets to much artificial heat they become warm, fat and lazy with plenty of milk on tap - which offer develops into swimmers. Not enough heat and they struggle to thrive. The solo sack can help with finding that middle ground, and reducing the need for artificial heat, by keeping the air temperature around your newborn puppy more constant when mum isn't around.
A single puppy obviously doesn’t have siblings to create "puppy piles" - which keep each other warm so adding a small cuddly toy for them to snuggle up to also helps and has the added bonus of having to be climb over which helps prevent swimmers developing. The Solo Sack is a soft, fleece, igloo-style pet bed provides a warm snuggly place to sleep and gives for your singleton litter an extra sense of security.
Of course you can also add a heat pad for extra warmth when required.
